Tides is currently an early-stage product being tested with a limited group of invited adult users. Features, policies, and data practices may evolve as the product is tested and developed.

Tides Labs LLC (“Tides,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a cycle-aware relationship communication platform designed to help couples better understand and navigate menstrual-cycle changes together.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, retain, and protect information when you use:

  • The Tides website, including Tideswithyou.com
  • The Tides mobile or web application
  • Partner invitations and connected-partner features
  • Tides text-message and SMS services
  • Any related Tides services that link to this Privacy Policy

By using Tides, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Important Information About Tides

Tides is a relationship communication and general-wellness product.

Tides is not:

  • A healthcare provider
  • A diagnostic service
  • A medical-treatment service
  • A therapy service
  • A crisis or emergency service
  • A substitute for medical or mental-health care

Tides may allow a user to state that she has been diagnosed with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, or PMDD, by a qualified healthcare professional.

Tides does not independently diagnose or verify PMDD.

Cycle phases provided by Tides are estimates based on information entered by the user. They do not confirm hormone levels, ovulation, fertility, pregnancy, or medical status.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information created through your use of Tides, and limited technical information required to operate and protect the service.

A. Account Information

We may collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Password or authentication credentials
  • Confirmation that you are at least 18 years old
  • Profile photo, if provided
  • Time zone
  • Language preference
  • Whether you are a cycle-sharing user or connected partner
  • Account and connection status

B. Cycle Information

Depending on the features you choose to use, we may collect:

  • First day of your last menstrual period
  • Period start and end dates
  • Average cycle length
  • Average period length
  • Estimated cycle phase
  • Cycle-history corrections
  • Dates on which you confirm a new period
  • Phase-related preferences you choose to record
  • Information about what tends to help during different parts of your cycle

Tides uses this information to provide estimated cycle-phase information and approved partner updates.

C. PMDD and Wellness Information

We may collect information you voluntarily provide, including:

  • Whether you experience strong luteal symptoms
  • Whether you are unsure if you have PMDD
  • Whether you state that you have been diagnosed with PMDD by a healthcare professional
  • Emotional or physical experiences you choose to record
  • Information about how PMDD or luteal symptoms affect you personally
  • Support preferences
  • Communication preferences
  • Information you choose to share with a connected partner

Tides does not use this information to diagnose or treat PMDD or another medical or mental-health condition.

D. Relationship and Preference Information

We may collect:

  • Partner name
  • Partner phone number or email address
  • Relationship connection status
  • Support preferences
  • Care preferences
  • Favorites
  • Wishlist items and links
  • Important dates
  • Personal notes associated with favorites, dates, or wishlist items
  • Preferences regarding comfort, space, reassurance, listening, practical help, physical affection, or communication
  • Little Things selections
  • Appreciation messages

E. Communication-Feature Information

When you use communication tools, we may collect information included in:

  • Explain Today
  • Hard Day
  • Repair
  • Appreciation messages
  • Message drafts
  • Messages you approve for delivery
  • Support selections
  • Feedback about whether an action was helpful

Explain Today, Hard Day, and Repair are intended to be manually initiated by the user. The user should be able to review and edit the applicable message before it is sent.

F. PMDD Partner-Education Information

If you state that you have been diagnosed with PMDD, you may choose whether Tides explains PMDD to your connected partner.

You may choose to share:

  • A general explanation of PMDD
  • How PMDD affects you personally
  • Your support preferences
  • Information about timing or symptom patterns
  • Other information that you specifically approve

Tides will not automatically share PMDD information merely because you selected the clinician-diagnosed PMDD option.

You may choose:

  • Share a general explanation
  • Share your personal experience
  • Share both
  • Not share right now
  • Never share PMDD information

You may later update or revoke your PMDD-sharing preferences.

G. Partner Invitation and Consent Information

We may collect:

  • Partner contact information
  • Invitation status
  • Invite links or connection tokens
  • Date and time an invitation was sent
  • Date and time consent was provided
  • YES, STOP, HELP, or similar SMS responses
  • Message-delivery status
  • Whether messaging is enabled or blocked
  • Categories of messages that are enabled or disabled
  • Quiet-hour preferences, when available
  • Records of consent, withdrawal, and opt-out requests

H. Communications With Tides

We may collect information you provide when you:

  • Contact us
  • Ask for technical support
  • Report a bug
  • Report an unwanted message
  • Request deletion
  • Participate in beta testing
  • Complete a survey
  • Provide product feedback

I. Technical and Usage Information

We may automatically collect limited technical information such as:

  • Device type
  • Operating system
  • Browser type
  • App version
  • IP address
  • Approximate location derived from IP address
  • Login dates and times
  • Screens or features used
  • Crash and diagnostic information
  • Security and fraud-prevention information

We do not intend to place sensitive cycle information, PMDD information, private message content, emotional check-ins, or private reflections into routine analytics or crash-reporting tools.

  • Maintaining sessions
  • Basic website functionality
  • Measuring general site performance

We do not use cycle, PMDD, emotional, symptom, or relationship information for behavioral or targeted advertising.

We do not use cycle, PMDD, emotional, or relationship information to make decisions concerning:

  • Employment
  • Credit
  • Insurance eligibility
  • Housing
  • Education
  • Government benefits
  • Similar eligibility determinations

4. How Partner Sharing Works

A connected partner does not automatically receive access to all information in your account.

Tides is designed to separate information into different categories.

Private Information

Private information may include:

  • Unsent message drafts
  • Detailed cycle history not selected for sharing
  • Private notes
  • Private reflections
  • Account settings
  • Information you have not approved for partner access
  • Future journal entries
  • Future AI conversations

Private information is not automatically available to a connected partner.

Information Shared With Permission

Depending on your choices, shared information may include:

  • Estimated current cycle phase
  • Approved cycle updates
  • Selected support preferences
  • Explain Today messages
  • Hard Day messages
  • Repair messages
  • Favorites
  • Wishlist items
  • Important dates
  • Care preferences
  • Appreciation messages
  • Approved PMDD education
  • Personal PMDD information you choose to share

Partner-Private Information

A connected partner may also have information that remains private to that partner, including:

  • Their own settings
  • Their own drafts
  • Their own preferences
  • Their own communications
  • Their own account information

A connected account does not create blanket access to another person’s information.

5. Automatic Messages

Certain messages may be delivered automatically after both people complete the applicable approval and consent steps.

Automatic messages may include:

  • Estimated cycle-phase updates
  • Support suggestions based on preferences the cycle-sharing user explicitly entered
  • Shared important-date reminders
  • Approved favorite or wishlist suggestions connected to an important date

Automatic messages begin only after:

  1. The cycle-sharing user approves the relevant sharing categories; and
  2. The connected partner consents to receive recurring Tides messages.

Either person may turn off or pause the message categories available to them.

Explain Today, Hard Day, and Repair are manually initiated and are not automatically sent.

Tides does not automatically send:

  • Private emotional drafts
  • Detailed symptom logs
  • Private notes
  • Journal entries
  • Medication information
  • Medical appointments
  • Fertility status
  • Pregnancy predictions
  • Sexual-interest predictions
  • Consent assumptions
  • Private crisis disclosures
  • Private abuse-related disclosures

6. How We Share Information

We may share information in the following circumstances.

A. With Your Connected Partner

We share only the information that you authorize through the applicable settings or communication feature.

B. With Service Providers

We may use third-party service providers to operate Tides, including providers that support:

  • Cloud hosting
  • Databases
  • Authentication
  • Text messaging
  • Email delivery
  • Security
  • Analytics
  • Crash reporting
  • Customer support
  • App distribution

Current or anticipated providers may include:

  • Firebase or Google Cloud
  • Vonage
  • Apple
  • Google
  • Other providers required to operate Tides

These providers may process information on our behalf for the services they provide.

Their handling of information may also be governed by their own privacy policies and contractual terms.

C. Mobile Numbers and SMS Consent Data

Mobile phone numbers and SMS opt-in/consent data collected for Tides messaging are used only to deliver the messages you or your connected partner have approved.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

We do not share mobile numbers or SMS opt-in/consent data with third parties for marketing, advertising, or any purpose other than operating and delivering Tides messaging services.

We do not sell mobile numbers or SMS opt-in/consent data to third parties.

D. For Legal or Safety Reasons

We may disclose information if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable law
  • Respond to a valid subpoena, court order, or lawful government request
  • Protect the rights, safety, or property of Tides, our users, or others
  • Investigate fraud, misuse, or security incidents
  • Enforce our Terms of Use

We will evaluate requests for sensitive reproductive-health or relationship information and may challenge requests that appear invalid, unlawful, or overly broad.

D. Business Transactions

Information may be transferred as part of:

  • A merger
  • Acquisition
  • Financing
  • Reorganization
  • Bankruptcy
  • Sale of company assets

Where legally required, we will provide notice and obtain any required consent before materially changing how sensitive information is used.

E. At Your Direction

We may share information when you specifically request or authorize us to do so.

7. No Sale of Personal, Mobile, or Consumer Health Information

Tides does not sell personal information.

Tides does not sell consumer health data.

Tides does not sell mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in/consent data.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

Tides does not share mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in/consent data with third parties for marketing or any purpose other than delivering Tides messaging services.

Tides does not use cycle, PMDD, symptom, emotional, relationship, or mobile/SMS information for targeted advertising.

If these practices materially change, we will update this Privacy Policy and obtain any consent required by law before implementing the change.

8. Consumer Health Information

Depending on applicable law, the following information may qualify as consumer health data:

  • Menstrual-cycle information
  • PMDD information
  • Symptom information
  • Emotional check-ins
  • Reproductive-health information
  • Mental-health-related information
  • Information that may reveal or infer health status

Tides may collect this information directly from the user when the user chooses to enter it.

We use it to provide the features the user requests, such as:

  • Estimated cycle phases
  • Personalized support preferences
  • Partner communication
  • PMDD education
  • User-approved reminders

We may share it only as described in this policy, including with:

  • A connected partner when the user authorizes sharing
  • Service providers required to operate the selected feature
  • Authorities or other entities when legally required

Users may contact Tides to:

  • Access their information
  • Correct their information
  • Request deletion
  • Withdraw consent
  • Revoke PMDD sharing
  • Disconnect a partner
  • Ask which information has been shared

9. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide Tides
  • Maintain accounts
  • Maintain consent and opt-out records
  • Meet legal obligations
  • Resolve disputes
  • Prevent fraud
  • Enforce agreements
  • Protect users and the service

Retention periods may vary based on the type of information.

For example:

  • Account information may be retained while the account remains active.
  • Consent and SMS opt-out records may be retained as necessary to demonstrate compliance.
  • Drafts may be deleted when the user deletes them or closes the account.
  • Backups may remain for a limited period before being overwritten.
  • Deidentified information that cannot reasonably identify a user may be retained for testing, research, or operational purposes.

10. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete information
  • Obtain a portable copy
  • Withdraw consent
  • Limit certain uses or disclosures
  • Appeal a denied privacy request
  • Learn which categories of third parties received information

Within Tides, you may also be able to:

  • Turn off automatic partner updates
  • Disable message categories
  • Hide estimated phase information
  • Revoke PMDD sharing
  • Disconnect your partner
  • Reply STOP to eligible SMS messages
  • Delete your account

Your message should include enough information for us to understand and verify the request.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising a legally protected privacy right.

11. Partner Disconnection

Either person may disconnect a relationship connection where this feature is available.

After disconnection:

  • New cycle updates will stop.
  • New partner messages will stop.
  • Each person will lose access to the other person’s current shared information.
  • Each person may retain their own account and private information.
  • Information previously delivered by SMS may remain on the recipient’s device.
  • Records may be retained where necessary for legal, safety, consent, or operational purposes.

Tides cannot remove messages that have already been delivered to another person’s phone.

12. SMS Communications

When you consent to receive Tides SMS messages, you agree to receive recurring messages associated with your account or connected-partner experience.

Message frequency varies.

Message and data rates may apply.

Consent to receive SMS is not a condition of purchasing a product or service.

You may reply:

  • STOP to unsubscribe
  • HELP for assistance

After receiving STOP, Tides may send one confirmation message and then stop the applicable recurring messages unless you later provide new consent.

13. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information.

These measures may include:

  • Encryption in transit
  • Authentication
  • Access controls

  • Security monitoring
  • Vendor controls
  • Backup protections
  • Incident-response procedures

No service is completely secure.

We cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure will never occur.

If a breach requires notification, Tides will provide notice as required by applicable law.

14. Adults Only

Tides is intended only for adults age 18 and older.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

If we learn that a person under 18 has created an account or submitted information, we may delete the information and close the account.

15. International Users

Tides is currently intended primarily for invited adult users in the United States and Puerto Rico.

If you access Tides from another country, information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.

Tides does not control and is not responsible for the privacy, security, products, or services of third parties.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Tides is tested and developed.

When we update it, we will change the “Last Updated” date.

We may provide additional notice if a change materially affects sensitive information or if notice or consent is required by law.
